It is more common to see that even you are paying for high speed broadband plan, the internet speed is very slow (through Wi-Fi) and you may see the videos are in buffering mode in YouTube. Question arise is, who is responsible for that? Internet service provider OR the fault is at your end. Many times, Wi-Fi speed issue is due to your router placement and settings.
There are certain tips to maintain your faster Wi-Fi speed
- Stop password sharing and change regularly
Nowadays, there are many broadband plans which provides unlimited data usage at cheap rate. So, everyone share their Wi-Fi password with friends and families. If so many people gets connected to your Wi-Fi connection, then your speed is going to slow down. Don’t share your password with all. Also keep the habit of changing password at regular intervals to avoid stealing internet connection.
- Antenna Alignment
Antenna alignment also play major role in Wi-Fi signal. The antenna should be aligned with Wi-Fi settings in your devices. If you Wi-Fi have two antenna’s then keep one in horizontal direction and other in vertical direction.
- Router placement
The location of your router play important role. The router signals are of very short length and possibly can be blocked by wall or any solid surface. It should be placed at center position at your home rather than keeping at showcase, cupboards or any corner of you floor. From center positions, the signals can move in all directions equally.
- Isolate the router from other Electronics Devices
If you check at anyone’s home, more commonly people keeps the router nearby television, or say on refrigerator and Microwave. Every electronic device releases the electronic waves and possibly those can interfere with router waves. This will leads to make your Wi-Fi speed slower. The best example is cordless phones.
- Use of Wi-Fi Extension (Repeater)
The Wi-Fi waves are of very short range and they may not able cover your large home area. Wi-Fi routers available from 150 meter to 300 meter range. If you are looking for more distance, then you can use repeater as the extension to router. The repeater may not provide the speed like your original router, but surely it will serve your problem.
